Some mornings I wake up and want something warm, satisfying and remnant of those bowls of delicious oatmeal I used to enjoy. Some mornings, let’s be real, I just want something other than soup for breakfast! That is where the GT Breakfast Bowl comes in for me. Honestly though, I enjoy this deliciousness as an evening treat as well! Who doesn’t want something that tastes like fall and is warm and creamy?! Oh and did I mention it is insanely good for you as well? The GT breakfast bowl is loaded with good fat, anti-inflammatory spices, and a serious amount of immune support.
Now I would be remiss if I did not talk to you about the importance of quality ingredients! The best produce is local, organic and in season. The reason why I am using so much pumpkin and winter squash in my recipes right now is due, in large part, to the fact that our local farms have just harvested them. Eating is season is a great way to make sure you are rotating your foods and getting the most nutrients from your produce. I find that fresh is best with seasoning as well. If I can use fresh turmeric root or mint just picked from the plant for example in a recipe I will always choose fresh over dried. This particular recipe also calls for ghee or coconut milk. With coconut milk, if you are sensitive, you want to check ingredients and make sure it is free of gums and the can is free of BPA. Or better yet make your own! Now for the ghee. I have tried a number of brands of grass fed ghee and have made my own. They all tasted the same until I tried 4th & Heart. I have to tell you I am in love with this ghee! The flavor and texture is far superior to any other ghee I have tried and there are a number of flavors to try!
One of the things I love about the GT Breakfast Bowl is it can be adapted for whatever stage of GAPS you are on and is AIP friendly as well! My boys and I usually keep it simple with ghee and honey. My Dreamboat loves to add a variety of toppings to make it more like a smoothie bowl.
I love the idea of smoothie bowls! They are both beautiful and delicious, but my stomach is not a fan! The GT bowl makes an amazing smoothie bowl alternative and you just pick the toppings that fit within your diet! Some of our favorite fall toppings are:
- green apple, pumpkin seed, chia seed, and coconut flakes
- cranberries, walnuts, and flax seeds
- pear, almond, and yogurt
So whatever way you choose to enjoy your GT Breakfast Bowl, I hope it brings warmth and variety to your breakfast routine!
- 2 cups Winter Squash- cooked
- 1/8 tsp Ginger- freshly grated
- 1/8 tsp Turmeric- freshly grated
- 2-3 tbs Ghee or Coconut Milk
- 1-2 tsp Raw Honey
- In a small sauce pan place your squash and ghee or coconut milk.
- Add in the grated ginger and turmeric.
- Stir all together and allow to simmer until warmed all the way through.
- Place in your bowl. Drizzle honey on top and add additional ghee or any other toppings you want.
