“Hashbrowns & Gravy” : A Country Style Breakfast (GAPS / SCD / AIP / Paleo / WAPF)

There are days that I crave a country style breakfast! I want biscuits and gravy. I want hash browns. I want something hearty that will stick with me for hours. When you are currently grain free, nut free, nightshade free, free of all the things that would make it easy to create this breakfast it becomes quite the challenge, but that was not going to stop me! I set out to make something filling and satiating and here is what I came up with!

First Start by making some Cauliflower Gravy!
  • Difficulty: easy

  • 1 head Cauliflower
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 3 cups Stock or Broth
  • optional: Marrow from two bones
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

  1. Chop up the cauliflower and mince the garlic.

  2. Place the cauliflower and garlic in a pan with the stock.

  3. Simmer without a lid until cauliflower is extremely soft.

  4. Once done pour everything into a high powered blender and mix until smooth.

  5. If using marrow add that in now and blend until totally incorporated.

  6. Add salt and, if you desire, pepper to taste.

  7. Enjoy!

While the cauliflower is cooking you can create your breakfast sausage.
  • Difficulty: easy

  • 1 pound Ground Meat
  • 1 tsp Sage
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 clove Garlic- minced
  • 1 Tbs Cooking Fat (we use Lard)
  • optional: 1/2 tsp Cracked Red Pepper

  1. Place 1 lb ground meat in a bowl.

  2. Mix in sage, salt, and minced garlic.

  3. Form small patties.

  4. Heat a small amount of fat in a pan.

  5. Once the pan is warmed up to a medium heat and the fat has melted place in the patties.

  6. Cook the patties for about 5-8 minutes on each side until the patties are cooked through.
  7. Enjoy!

The final step is to create your Spaghetti Squash Hashbrowns!

This meal may take a little more work than some of my other recipes, but trust me, it is worth it! Once you have all your components you simply have to assemble them and dive in! This makes a great Saturday morning breakfast. You can also prep everything ahead of time then all you have to do is cook it all up and you have a great breakfast for camping or anytime!
